Gulf Maritime General Trading & Contracting coordinated the transport of four transformers and 45-tonne shunt reactors from Shuaiba port for the Ministry of Electricity and Water Kuwait.
Each transformer measured 10.1 m x 4. 1 m x 5.5 m and tipped the scales at 188.3 tonnes.
They were transported on multi-axle trailers, with 16 axles each per transformer. Due to dimensions of the units, a 250 km route was selected to avoid bridges, while a new road was constructed and road dividers removed.
Special permits, police escorts, and ministry approvals were required to fulfil the moves, which saw the convoy drive against traffic for one section of the route.
Each transformer was unloaded from the hydraulic axles and placed on its foundation via a jacking and skidding operation.
