SAL Heavy Lift’s vessel Frauke has delivered one of Liebherr’s largest mobile harbour cranes to GT USA’s Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT).
The project involved discharging multiple pieces of a Liebherr TCC-BOS 14000 crane. This included a 680-tonne item, which was offloaded in a tandem operation using the ship’s gear. This unit is the heaviest load handled at the GT USA CCT.
According to GT USA, another record was broken as the longest piece of cargo was discharged over the quay – the 350 ft (107 m) boom of the mobile harbour crane.
Once fully assembled, the new crane will remain on CCT’s facility to assist the space industry operations carried out in Port Canaveral.
Luke Richards, managing director of GT USA, said: “A substantial amount of meticulous planning was invested by all parties involved to guarantee the safe and efficient unloading of these heavy pieces.”
