Walter Keil Transporte und Erdbewegungen (Keil) of Austria has used a Goldhofer MPA 3 low-loader semi-trailer to deliver excavators, dump trucks and other heavy equipment to a construction site situated at an altitude of over 3,000 m.

Located below the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn mountain, Austria, Keil had to navigate winding roads and alpine terrain. ”Our other semi-trailers quickly reached their limits when it came to the manoeuvrability required for such tight bends,” said Andi Brennsteiner, who has worked as a truck driver for Keil for more than 25 years.

Goldhofer’s MPA 3 has a 60-degree steering angle available with a specifically designed MPA axle. It also has a 350 mm suspension stroke.

“In most cases, unloading points high up in the mountains are not on level ground, and loading and unloading are carried out on an incline. So, the low-loader has to be short, manoeuvrable, flexible, safe and robust, but also relatively light, while the mountain terrain also calls for a large steering angle and suspension stroke,” added Brennsteiner.

The use of Goldhofer’s SmartControl system and the semi-trailer’s suspsension stroke ensured that the excavator was safely unloaded. “In the case of Keil, this basic information enabled us to integrate a sliding table on the extension tube, which can be locked in various positions, making it easier to transport four-axle dump trucks in particular,” said Levin Gonser, regional sales manager at Goldhofer.

Last month, HLPFI reported that Goldhofer delivered 112 THP-SL axle lines and goosenecks to Sarens.
