Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has completed the installation of 47 wind turbines for Siemen Gamesa’s 376 MW Formosa 2 wind farm in Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Fred. Olsen said its jack-up vessel, Brave Tern, started the project in June 2022 and installed 26 turbines. Its sistership, Bold Tern, took over in August 2022 after undergoing upgrades that included the outfitting of a 1,600-tonne Huisman crane, as HLPFI reported here, installing 14 turbines.
For the final phases of the project, Brave Tern was brought back to support Bold Tern with the installation of the remaining seven turbines.
Hans-Petter Austad, senior project manager of Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, said: “The Formosa 2 project showcases our continued commitment to the growing Taiwanese offshore wind market and to the Asia Pacific (APAC) region in general. The project contributes significantly to Taiwan’s renewable energy targets, and we are proud to take a leading role in the Taiwanese offshore wind market.”
