Fioravanti arranged for the movement of a heavy transformer from Agrate Briganza, Italy to Leverkusen, Germany.
The project included final positioning of the 55-tonne unit, which measured 3.95 m x 3.8 m x 4 m, at the final destination: a chemical manufacturing site.
A spokesperson for Fioravanti explained: “The positioning operations for this unit have been very challenging, because of the limited access to the site and operating room space did not allow for lifting by mobile cranes. Instead we’ve been forced to position the transformer through the skidding technique combining the use of hydraulic jacks, support beams and sliding ways.”
On delivery to the project site, the transformer was lifted with hydraulic jacks, while beams, stools and steel plates were installed at the required height. The beams were then extended to the foundations and the transformer was skidded into place with jacks and rollers. “After that, the chemical site’s workers were able to rebuild the brick wall of the room, which had been torn down to let in the transformer,” said Fioravanti. Positioning activities took two days to complete.
