Express Global Logistics (EXG) successfully undertook the transportation of wind turbine generator components from China to India. The project involved both ocean freight and complex ground transportation to the final destination.
The journey began with the careful loading of the blades at a port in eastern China, which were shipped to western India. The inland transportation in India posed various challenges. EXG utilised specialised equipment to transport the blades, including two mechanical trailers, two sets of hydraulic axles and three extendable trailers.
“The route to the final destination involved navigating sharp turns and narrow roads. Multiple civil works, such as road widening and removing barriers, were conducted to facilitate the safe passage of the blades. EXG’s team collaborated with local authorities and contractors to execute these modifications efficiently,” said a spokesperson for EXG.
The large size of the blades necessitated the temporary removal and relocation of several roadside signboards. Ensuring the safety of both the blades and other road users was paramount. EXG worked closely with local police authorities to provide an escort for the transport vehicles.
The blades measured 81 m x 5.2 m x 3.5 m. A nacelle weighing 114.5 tonnes and hub tipping the scales at 41 tonnes were also delivered to the site.
EXG is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India.
