DHL Industrial Projects transported four azimuth thrusters from Mexico to Texas, the USA, for repair.
The project took place while regular vessels cancelled their port calls in Mexico, said DHL Industrial Projects. Already facing a tight schedule, the forwarder said that its client could not allow for delays and so the company leveraged its carrier network to find the most efficient solution utilising both a breakbulk and a ro-ro vessel with short transit times north and southbound.
A journey that used to take a week on a scheduled liner service due to the number of port calls, was completed in three days northbound. As such, the four propulsion units, measuring 6.4 m x 4.2 m x 4.35 m and weighing 50 tonnes, reached their destination well within the schedule.
