DHL Industrial Projects is handling the delivery of four 140-tonne boilers from Germany to Saudi Arabia.
The boilers, which measured 3.7 m in height, 4.1 m wide and 19 m in length, have been transported individually from the manufacturer’s plant in Berlin. The cargo was moved by barge on the River Elbe to the port of Aken before being transhipped onto trailers and hauled by road to Leipzig Airport. The unit was then flown to Saudi Arabia onboard the world’s largest freighter aircraft, the Antonov AN-225.
“Logistics, especially within the breakbulk segment, is all about local knowledge, mainly with regards to specificities of different ports or with reference to infrastructure, equipment, roads and regulation,” explains Nikola Hagleitner, ceo at DHL Industrial Projects. The first three waste heat boilers have already arrived at their destination in Jubail. The fourth unit is scheduled for delivery in the coming days.
