Denholm Good Logistics’ project forwarding division handled the transport of specialist reactors from Santos, Sao Paulo, in Brazil to South Shields in the UK for the Sofia offshore wind farm project.
The multimodal operation required meticulous planning, which saw the cargoes packed into five wooden crates and lashed onboard two 40 ft flatracks. They were then stowed onboard a vessel bound for Liverpool in the UK.
After an ocean transit of 47 days, the crates arrived in Liverpool and were offloaded by Peel Ports. The shipment then had to reach its final destination in South Shields by road – a cross-country, two-day haulage.
Paul Joynson, logistics coordinator at Denholm Good Logistics, said: “The Sofia project presents many challenges, be it sourcing specialist vehicles for certain deliveries or arranging for specialist equipment to be in place to unload heavy and out-of-gauge (OOG) items at the various UK storage points we control… During the UK leg of the transit, the team kept in continued communication with the customer, providing regular updates to make them aware at every stage that arrival timeframes and cost-efficiencies were being met.”
