Sarens employed a Demag CC 3800-1 lattice boom crawler crane to lift four steel structures at the Saint-Symphorien football stadium in Metz, France.
Each structure measured 45 m x 25 m x 14 m, the heaviest weighing 242 tonnes. The crane – with 165-tonne counterweight – lifted the structures to an initial height of 16 m to clear trees at the edge of the stadium, then a further 13-29 m, before lowering them into position on the stadium’s south stand.
Before the lifting operation could commence, two layers of 20 cm-thick timber had to be prepared to support the crane, said Julien Cavelius – site manager for construction contractor Demathieu Bard.
