DAKO Worldwide Transport has delivered several out-of-gauge (OOG) and heavy components from the south of Italy to Austria and Germany for the modernisation of two steel manufacturing plants.
While some general and OOG cargo was transported completely via road, the main pieces had challenging dimensions up to 13.94 m x 6.37 m x 4.81 m, with weights up to 118 tonnes. These pieces were therefore shipped on a coaster vessel from Italy to Rotterdam.
In Rotterdam, the cargoes were transhipped directly from the coaster vessel onto barges. DAKO Worldwide Transport said that due to critical water levels on the inland waterways, it needed to deploy special low draught barges to ensure delivery of the components to Linz, Austria, and Salzgitter, Germany.
