SPMTs from Cometto have been used for a project in Finland that involved moving ship sections in -18°C conditions.

Temperatures dropped as low as -18 degrees.

Several ship sections, with block weights of 320 tonnes, were transported using the Cometto MSPEs, which had a combination two 10-axle configurations. This was made more challenging due to temperatures dropping to as low as -18°C and, with that, came icy conditions.

“The winter package in the power pack unit makes it possible to start our vehicles even at such low temperatures and drive them without any problems,” commented Joachim Kolb, sales manager at Cometto.

“Without preheating the batteries, the cooling water and, of course, the hydraulic and diesel tanks, you would otherwise be at a loss here,’ added Mikko Vuorsola, ceo of Vuorsola – Cometto’s Finnish customer.

Once the components were stowed aboard the barge, they were transported to the port of Pori before being unloaded by a Cometto SPMT.

The project took place at Enersense Offshore’s facility in Mäntyluoto and was carried out for Aker Solutions.

In January 2025, HLPFI reported that Cometto SPMTs had been used to replace a 100-year-old bridge in Sweden.
