Collett & Sons has delivered three cold box sections from Eggborough in North Yorkshire to the West Midlands, UK.
The largest section measured 4.4 m high and 35 m long. Collett designed a bespoke solution where the cargo was suspended between two mutli-axle trailers from Scheuerle. This allowed Collett to raise and lower the height of the load along the 110 mile (177 km) route.
Collett designed a bracket system to secure the load to the trailers. This bracket and pin system was attached the cold box, providing an anchoring point for the clamp to secure to the load.
Whilst Collett’s engineering team manufactured the loading solution, the Collett consulting team analysed the route, undertaking extensive swept path analysis reports to ensure the safe delivery of the 76-tonne cold box.
Due to the length of the cargo and loaded vehicle, numerous sections of the route required the removal of street furniture, road widening and motorway closures to allow the combination to undertake contraflow manoeuvres and continue on the route.
The two smaller 29 m and 25 m loads followed the same route to the project site.
