Blue Water Gothenburg, on behalf of Sweden’s Sandvik SRP, arranged the delivery of five stone-crushers from the manufacturer’s plant in Svedala to Adelaide, Australia using Höegh Autoliner’s service from Gothenburg.
The consignment had a total volume 614 cu m, with a combined weight of 455 tonnes. “Due to a very tight timeframe, a detailed collection plan had to be thoroughly planned to avoid any waiting time and storage,” explained Anna Hägerstrand, coordinator on the project at Blue Water Gothenburg.
The minor parts and accessories were delivered to the port of Helsingborg and loaded in seven 40 ft containers for delivery via a Maersk Line service. The major parts of the crushers (weighing 378 tons) were delivered to Gothenburg, loaded on Mafi trailers and shipped out on the ro-ro vessel, Höegh Yokohama.
According to Höegh, the ro-ro method reduces the risk of damage as it eliminates the need for crane lifting in both load and discharge ports. In addition, by stowing the breakbulk units under deck, they are protected against weather and seawater.
The stone crushers will form a key part of Sandvik´s Cairn Hill magnetite mine plant in South Australia, said Luca Di Filippantonio, freight and documentation coordinator – plant solutions, at Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology.
