Boskalis and Van Oord have begun preliminary works for Sweden’s largest dredging projects in recent times.
The port and waterways in the port of Luleå need to be deepened to allow for the production and export of green steel in the north of Sweden. Three to four times more cargo capacity will be able to pass through Luleå once the Malmporten project is completed, allowing for the movement of larger vessels.
The works should improve maritime transport efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Boskalis’ backhoe dredger Magnor and Van Oord’s backhoe dredger Simson are being used on the project.
