Bertling Logistics Germany has coordinated the transport of a 330-ton (300-tonne) Siemens gas turbine from Auckland, New Zealand to BLG Logistics’ terminal in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The turbine was discharged from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean’s ro-ro vessel Toensberg using SPMTs owned by BLG.
The total weight of the combination, including the steel girders and SPMTs, reached up to 462 tons (419 tonnes), setting a new ro-ro weight record for the terminal.
A 600-tonne capacity Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane, owned by Schmidbauer, was then used to move the turbine from the SMPTs onto a barge for onward transportation to Berlin.
As HLPFI reported here, the crane has been positioned at the terminal since May and has already been used to unload a 226-ton (205-tonne) generator from a barge.
