Cometto’s BladeMAX1000 completed its debut project by transporting 15 XXL wind turbine blades and tower sections to a wind farm in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
A 12-axle self-propelled MSPE combination with the BladeMAX1000 blade lifter was used by German transportation firm Hofmann Kran-Vermietung to move an 81 m long blade along narrow roads and through dense forestry – with the blade able to be seen above the trees.
Cometto’s stability control system proved critical in navigating tight curves and steep inclines along the route, whilst totally removing any oscillation of the vehicle when the blade was sloped 60 degrees into the wind.
“The stability control system automatically balances the four support groups across all 48 electronically steered wheels. This unique system gives the BladeMAX1000 unmatched stability,” said Joachim Kolb, sales manager at Cometto. “The operator can focus on the essential tasks – driving and steering this imposing combo – with reduced strain.”
At the Zerfer Schneeberg wind farm, Hofmann erected the first turbine to a hub height of 164 m before using a Liebherr LR1800 crawler crane to assemble the second, which stood at 177 m. In total, the company delivered 15 blades and tower sections to the site.
Earlier this month, Denzai became the launch customer for Cometto’s MSPE 60t SPMT.
