Ares Group has coordinated the delivery of a 167-tonne transformer from Melbourne, Victoria, to Stanwell, Queensland using a new M500 platform module from Kennedy Trailers.

Kennedy Trailers said this was a brand-new trailer design and it was the first time that transformers have been moved this way in Australia on a platform load deck

The M500 platform module is made up of four separate modules, has a 200-tonne rated load deck. The trailer measured 38 m in length, weighed around 94 tonnes tare, and the gross combination mass was 312 tonnes.

The trailer made its way from Kennedy’s factory in Bairnsdale, Victoria to collect the 167-tonne transformer from Wilson Transformer Company in Melbourne. From there, it began its 2,500 km journey to Stanwell, taking two-and-a-half weeks.

The full load including the three trucks was around 72 m long combined.
