Antonov Airlines has transported a Maxar-built satellite from Moffet Federal Airfield in California to the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida.
The satellite will be launched by the US aerospace company SpaceX. Loaded into a space shipping container, the shipment weighed approximately 36 tonnes and was transported onboard one of Antonov’s AN-124-100 aircraft.
Maxar’s director of global logistics and warehouse management Virginia Gonzalez (Lloyd) said: “Due to the nature of the cargo, the AN-124-100 is the only aircraft that can haul the size and weight of the space shipping container. In addition, the AN-124-100 does not require special ground support equipment to load and unload the cargo.”
