Ambercor Shipping has completed a transformer delivery in Canada, a move complicated by unavoidable delays and construction projects making permits tricky to secure.
The transformer was moved from Italy to Canada in 2022 and required repair and maintenance in Ontario. Ambercor worked closely with Italian forwarder Fioravanti to schedule the operation. Ambercor was tasked with the overland transportation leg and overcame several obstacles during the move.
The transformer was originally supposed to be transloaded and transported in January but was delayed due to road restrictions – and the green light was not given until the beginning of June. The Ambercor team was present in Trail, British Columbia, for the loading of the transformer onto its partner carrier’s trailer.
“Our partner carrier tried multiple options to get their trailer to move in Ontario, but due to construction season, all permit applications were rejected by the local authority,” said a company spokesperson. “We came up with the solution to transload this transformer from the trailer onto a different unit – a 11-axle mini-deck combo right before the Ontario (ON) border in order to reduce the width and get approved permits.”
The transformer has been delivered to the consignee and is being inspected, ahead of potential repairs. “We are now waiting for the greenlight to start processing permits for the delivery back to Trail,” said Ambercor.
Ambercor Shipping and Fioravanti are members of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC).
