ALE has handled the transport of a 5,134-tonne evaporator for the Shoaiba Desalination Plant project in Saudi Arabia.
The heavy lift contractor delivered the unit, which ALE claims is the world's heaviest evaporator, to the project site in Shoaiba, 100 km south of Jeddah.
As part of the project, ALE also transported steam transformers, lime filters and brine manifold to the Shoaiba Desalination Plant.
In April, ALE received and handled the items at the plant's jetty. The evaporator was loaded-in using 186 axle lines of SPMTs.
From the jetty, the cargoes, including the evaporator, were transported 1 km to the project site. According to ALE, to avoid the unnecessary removal of obstacles, aspects of the cargo structure were modified to pass over fences in the project site.
Andrew Spink, general manager for ALE's Saudi Arabia branch, commented: "This was a complex operation, not only in terms of the pieces involved, but also the logistics of receiving almost 200 axle lines of SPMTs and mobilising an experienced transport crew."
