ALE’s research and development team in Breda, the Netherlands has developed a specialised modular transport frame for the handling of transition pieces at ports.
The system has been developed as a cost-effective alternative to handling transition pieces with cranes, said ALE. Capable of transporting transition pieces weighing in excess of 600 tonnes, the system also eliminates the need to work at height.
The engineered transport provider added that the system contributes to overall project efficiency, as it is capable of handling the components within limited spaces, which optimises storage.
“Offshore renewables is a huge growth market for us and we wanted to ensure we had the optimal solution for port handling operations for our clients,” explained Tomas Villarino, technical sales manager at ALE.
The system is in the final stages of fabrication, ready to start working in early 2019.
