UAE-based Al Faris has deployed Cometto SPMT axle lines to move a 410-ton (372-tonne) shiploader in Dubai.
Earlier this year, Al Faris received from 64 Cometto MSPE axle lines able to handle a load of 48 tonnes each. For the move, Cometto said that 28 of those axle lines were assembled in a side-by-side open compound configuration.
According to Al Faris’ group engineering and projects manager Yashvanth Kumar, the shiploader was fabricated in different sections at the manufacturer’s yard 10 km away from Dubai’s main port. The axle lines were used to move all individual sections to the port, where they were assembled.
It was then shifted to the berth to be loaded onto a vessel for onward transport. The main challenge for this part of the move was to support the shiploader’s high centre of gravity.
