Volga-Dnepr Airlines and Kintetsu World Express France (KWE) have coordinated the delivery of an 11,000 hp Alstom pump from Paris-Vatry airport, France, to Damman, Saudi Arabia aboard an AN-124-100 freighter.
The 40-ton (36.3-tonne) pump, measuring 6.51 m x 2.74 m x3. 11m, was flown to Saudi Arabia just seven days after the initial charter request was received from the customer.
Volga-Dnepr’s load planning team advised on the correct preparation of the shipment in advance of the flight, a process that required the removal of oceanfreight packaging, and the fitting of shackles and eye bolts to secure the cargo during its flight.
The carrier used a rail system, extension ramps and skate beams, as well as mobile cranes, to ensure the unit was safely loaded and discharged.
“The whole delivery took six hours and 45 minutes whereas with seafreight transportation the customer would have waited 20-plus days,” said Ekaterina Andreeva, deputy commercial director, Volga-Dnepr Airlines.
