Ainscough Crane Hire, based in Lancashire, UK, has been working alongside its client AmcoGiffen to remove a bridge at Liverpool dock prior to vital repair work.

Ainscough deployed its Liebherr LTM 1300 crane to remove a lift bridge at the port of Liverpool’s Brunswick Dock, allowing AmcoGiffen to install new bearings and reseal the lifting hydraulic rams.

The tight dock setting meant that it was difficult to position the 300-tonne crane, which had a 34.2 m boom, as it had to navigate access roads surrounding the dock. Ainscough used timber to enable the crane’s wheels and tyres to mount the kerbs, meaning it could navigate busy traffic.

“This was a potentially complex lift of a key piece of infrastructure made easy thanks to teamwork and a great relationship between Ainscough and our client,” said Garry Burke, Ainscough’s Lancaster and Preston depot manager.

Ainscough will return to Brunswick Dock to reinstall the bridge once it has undergone repairs.

In September 2024, Ainscough installed a cycle and pedestrian bridge in Powys, Wales.
