France-based Haropa and Ports of Normandy have joined forces to produce fact sheets and information sessions to help freight forwarders negotiate the end of the UK’s transition period from the EU, which comes to a close on January 1, 2021.
The crossing will rely on the smart border system. Only goods that have been pre-declared or have a Customs transit document can board a ferry, and lorries are channelled as soon as they disembark according to the status of the goods carried.
The port authorities said all equipment and systems have been tested and are fully operational. However, the success of the system relies upon the actors in the supply chain anticipating and planning their crossing processes correctly.
