Vattenfall’s Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord wind farms are nearing completion, with Jan De Nul’s installation vessel Vole au vent recently installing the remaining wind turbines.
The turbines were shipped from the Danish port of Esbjerg. 41 turbines, measuring 193 m high, have now been erected some 5-10 km off the west coast of Jutland.
The preparations for the installation began in January 2023. The offshore construction site was marked up with buoys, and in February, the monopile protecting the turbine foundations was put in place. Next followed the construction of the foundations, which proceeded according to plan and was completed on April 28.
April marked the start of the installation of cables on the beach, while the laying of cables offshore began in July.
A couple of weeks ago, according to Port Esbjerg, Vole au vent was loaded with the final tower to be installed as well as the last of the turbine blades. The ship lay in the harbour for just over a week, waiting for the weather to improve before the last of the components could be installed.
The ship then sailed back to Esbjerg and had its wind turbine installation equipment dismantled.
Vattenfall expects Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd to be fully connected to the grid by December 31, 2023.
