On June 3, South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean launched Wind Maker, the latest wind turbine installation vessel ordered by Danish offshore wind energy specialist Cadeler.
Gusto MSC designed the NG-16000X vessel, which features a 2,600-tonne leg encircling crane supplied by Dutch manufacturer Huisman.
The jack-up is designed to install turbines with capacities of up to 20 MW at water depths reaching up to 65 m. It also boasts the flexibility to operate using either liquefied natural gas (LNG) or ammonia as alternate fuels.
At the end of May 2024, Cadeler placed an order to build its third state-of-the-art A-class wind farm installation vessel, which will bring the total number of vessels in its fleet to 11. Wind Apex will be a hybrid design of Cadeler’s A-class vessels, which can convert from being a foundation installation unit to a wind turbine generator installation vessel within a short period of time.
