The first steel has been cut for Offshore Heavy Transport’s (OHT) Ulstein-designed semi-submersible heavy lift crane vessel at China Merchant Heavy Industry’s (CMHI) yard in China.
The vessel has been designed for use in the offshore renewable energy and installation market.
As HLPFI reported here, the Alfa Lift design includes a 3,000-tonne capacity crane from Liebherr and will be able to perform heavy lift operations while the main deck is submerged.
The vessel has a total length of 216.3 m and a breadth of 56 m, while the total usable deck area exceeds 10,000 sq m. Up to ten 1,500-tonne jacket foundations, or eleven 2,000-tonne monopolies, can be loaded on to the deck, transported and installed, said OHT.
The ship will enter service in early 2021.
