Jan De Nul Group has signed an agreement with Vroon Group to acquire MPI Offshore’s jack-up crane vessel MPI Discovery, together with its crew and a number of MPI’s employees.
The acquisition represents a significant investment from Jan De Nul in its offshore wind activities.
“Jan De Nul Group executed several offshore wind farm projects across Europe. To further support our expansion in Europe but also worldwide, we continue investing in our offshore wind resources,” said Philippe Hutse, offshore director at Jan De Nul Group. “The MPI Discovery will considerably strengthen our position on the market.”
The jack-up vessel, built in 2011, was specifically designed to transport, lift and install offshore wind turbines and foundations.
As HLPFI reported here, the Netherlands-based Van Oord signed a letter of intent with Vroon Group to acquire MPI Offshore, including the vessels MPI Adventure and MPI Resolution.
A spokesperson for Vroon Group confirmed that the fourth vessel, MPI Enterprise, will also be sold but the company is still considering a number of options.
