September 25 - Fehn Ship Management will install a Flettner rotor onboard its general cargo vessel Fehn Pollux next year.
The Eco Flettner WHC rotor consists of an 18 m high cylinder with a 3 m diameter, and uses a wide range of wind speeds to produce forward thrust. The energy generated reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions, said Fehn Ship Management, which is part of the EMS-Fehn-Group.
The Eco Flettner WHC has been developed by partners of the German-Dutch Interreg IVa project.
"We have been considering alternative propulsion systems already for a long time," said Fehn Ship Management managing director Matthias Hesse. "We therefore didn't hesitate when asked to participate in this project."
