September 26 - Engineered Rigging has launched its new Rapid Bridge Replacement System, which enables a railway bridge span to be removed and replaced in just one day.
The 250-tonne capacity system is unique as it installs on top of the rails, rather than under them as used in hydraulic cylinder lift methods, states Engineered Rigging. As well as saving time, it eliminates the need for extensive below-rail modifications to adjacent bridge span sections.
Crews can construct the Rapid Bridge Replacement System on a nearby spur, as to not interrupt railway services during set-up. The entire system can be moved on four or five flatbed trailers.
"Depending on the number of spans, railroads can safely and efficiently replace a complete bridge in days rather than months," said Bogdan Gaita, vice president of Engineered Rigging.
