Europe installed 16.4 GW of new wind power capacity in 2024 – 12.9 GW of this coming from the EU-27 nations. 84 percent of the new wind capacity built in Europe last year was onshore, while 2.6 GW of new offshore capacity was connected to the grid.

According to WindEurope, that’s less than half of what the EU needs to deliver on its energy security targets. Poor permitting, slow grid build-out and insufficient electrification are holding back the expansion of wind.
