March 27 - Kranverleih Sommer has used its Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane to lift and position a 50-tonne tank at the Airbus plant in Bremen, Germany.
The 22 m long hot water tank, which is being used to expand the capacity of Airbus' heating power plant, was delivered to the site upside down on a low loader trailer. This meant that the tank first had to be placed on to rollers and turned into the correct position, said Liebherr.
The 300-tonne capacity Liebherr crane then hoisted the tank onto a prepared foundation at a lifting radius of 14 m.
Sommer took delivery of the LTM 1300-6.2, which has a 78 m long telescopic boom, at the end of 2014 and has so far used the crane in a number of jobs, including at wind turbine plants, steel and concrete sites and also to erect a construction crane in Hamburg.
Björn Sommer, who is second-in-command at the company, said: "The crane can be set up quickly and easily. Work with the long telescopic boom can also be carried out while a larger crane with guying would normally be required. That means that a wide range of jobs can be carried out at lower cost."
