France-based Somatra has taken delivery of a Demag AC 220-5 all-terrain crane.
The 220-tonne lifting capacity unit comes with a 78 m main boom and has a maximum system length of 99 m.
The crane comes equipped with Terex’s IC-1 Plus control system. According to Cyrille Morisseau, manager of Somatra, the control system played a key role in his buying decision: “It determines the crane’s lifting capacities in real time, which means the operator is always aware of the crane’s load limits — no matter the slewing angle of the superstructure. It will help us reduce the amount of counterweight we need to carry from job to job and allows us to use this unit on more heavy lifting projects.”
With its ability to remain under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes, Somatra said the crane is easy to transport and helps keep associated expenses low.
