April 26 - Samson is to launch its new generation of heavy lift slings - the Agile Lifting System - at the Offshore Technology Conference in May.
The Agile system is a hybrid product - utilising Samson's AmSteel-Blue and AS-78 synthetic ropes - which the manufacturer says combines the advantages of both round and rope slings into one lightweight, easy-to-handle rigging system for heavy offshore payloads.
The new system is available with capacities ranging from 50 to 4,000 tonnes.
"Currently, there are basically three types of slings available for lifting heavy loads, including steel wire cable-laid slings, traditional rope slings and fibre round slings, all of which have various drawbacks to their designs," said Samson vice president of sales and marketing, Joe Mazzacano.
According to Mazzacano, the Agile Lifting System offers an alternative option for engineered lifts. The slings are very light meaning that they do not increase the weight of load much and there is less chance of damage to the cargo, said Samson.
