Crane manufacturer Liebherr has demonstrated the capabilities of its remote control, semi-automatic maintenance system, operating an RL 2600 offshore crane located in Rostock, Germany, from an office building in Nenzing, Austria.
The Liebherr Intelligent Maintenance system (LiMain) was developed in response to the increasing need for automated intelligence in offshore maintenance work. It enables operators to maintain a crane on a platform without being on site.
In Nenzing, the system was presented to representatives of the offshore wind industry.
In a bid to keep operational and maintenance costs low, Liebherr said that using the system could reduce service visits for owners and operators to the offshore platforms down to once a year. It added that visits could be even less frequent depending on platform type and usage.
