Haji Hassan Cranes’ LTM 1160-5.2 from Liebherr.

In efforts to modernise its fleet, Haji Hassan Cranes has ordered one LTM 1160-5.2 mobile crane, which will fill the crane rental company’s current gap between a 120-tonne and a 300-tonne crane by offering a load capacity of 180 tonnes. As well as this, Haji Hassan Cranes had purchased a pair of LTM 1090-4.2 cranes from Liebherr which will modernise its fleet by replacing two ageing 80-tonne cranes. Both crane types are fitted with Liebherr’s VarioBase and VarioBallast technologies.

Discussing the LTM 1090-4.2 purchases, Deepak Pillai, operations supervisor at Haji Hassan Cranes, said: “The 90-tonners impressed us with their short set-up time, 60-m main boom and outstanding lifting performance. This enables us to carry out even the most challenging lifting operations safely and quickly.”

With involvement in numerous major construction projects in Bahrain, the cranes will be used across lifting jobs in oil refineries, steelworks and petrochemical plants, and the handling of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, amongst others.

Grupo Modesto, a Dominican crane, heavy haulage and construction company, has taken delivery of one LTM 1150-5.3 and one LTM 1230-5.1, with both mobile cranes expected to be primarily used for industrial construction in the metropolitan region of Santo Domingo.

The LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1 in operation for Grupo Modesto.

“Over recent years, our country has experienced strong economic growth,” said José Roberto Modesto, vice-president of Grupo Modesto. “Cranes with a load capacity of 150 to 230 tonnes are currently in high demand. The LTM 1150-5.3 and LTM 1230-5.1 are versatile, even on bigger projects.”

Both cranes are equipped with a second winch, allowing them to operate in dual-hook mode. Like Haji Hassan Crane’s new orders, both of Grupo Modesto’s models include Liebherr’s VarioBase and VarioBallast tools.

Grupo Modesto has already put the two new cranes to use by dismantling an old harbour crane at the port of Santo Domingo. The LTM 1150-5.3, ballasted with 29 tonnes, lifted a work basket containing two crew who detached parts of the old harbour crane, whilst the LTM 1230-5.1 then lowered these parts downwards ready for transport off site. Crane work for the project took eight days.

Earlier this month, HLPFI reported that Universal Cranes had added a pre-used Liebherr LTR 11200 all-terrain crane to its fleet.
