The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) Southeast Asia regional council convened for its inaugural meeting in May, with Alex Lew of Franklin Offshore appointed as chair.

This is the third regional council established by LEEA, a leading representative body for the lifting industry. This council follows models established in the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.

Discussions at the first Southeast Asia meeting centred on what action can be taken to advance safety within all lifting operations across all industries.

LEEA’s Matthew Barber said: “The council will play a vital role in shaping the future – championing safety, raising standards and building capability for the long term. Our discussions at the first meeting centred around two key priorities: the need for greater recognition of LEEA by regulators and governments and the importance of making high-quality, localised training more accessible throughout the region.”
