August 27 - The first Liebherr LTR 1220 telescopic crawler crane to be used in Latin America, which is owned by Gruas Alquileres, is currently operating in a copper-zinc mine in the Peruvian Andes.
The 200-tonne capacity LTR 1220 telescopic crawler is used for unloading the components of two electrical mining excavators and assembling them.
With a powerful hydraulic telescopic boom and crawler gear that can handle the most difficult terrain, Liebherr says that this model is the perfect crane for this job, which is located in the Andes at an altitude of almost 5,000 m.
Gruas Alquileres and the company that currently has the crane under hire, Joy Global Peru SAC, said that the LTR 1220 handled the work efficiently and safely, especially given the difficult conditions and extreme temperature fluctuations.
The mine, which is called Antamina, produces copper, zinc and molybdenum ore, and is one of the largest in the world.
