Brazil’s Tatuapé Cranes has been using Manitowoc’s Grove GMK6450-1 crane on some of its key projects.
Following its arrival at Tatuapé Cranes’ São Paulo, Brazil, headquarters, the Grove GMK6450-1 crane has been used for maintenance purposes at an oil refinery, expansion of São Paulo’s Line 2 subway, and to lift beams on the Presidente Dutra Highway. Of late, the crane was commissioned at a steel plant in Rio de Janeiro.
“The GMK6450-1 addresses a niche in our lineup between the 400-t and 500-t models,” said Alexandre Andrade, executive director of Tatuapé Cranes. “This six-axle machine offers advanced technology and exceptional operational performance, making it ideal for this capacity range.”
Manitowoc’s MegaWingLift self-rigging boom – able to be rigged in under 20 minutes without an assist crane – can be attached to the GMK6450-1, which can add to the crane’s capacity by up to 60 percent. When operating with the crane’s 79-m luffing jib, the maximum tip height is 136 m – the lifting capacity can be increased by up to 400 percent when combined with the MegaWingLift.
Tatuapé Cranes and Grove boast a relationship which spans more than 50 years.
In October 2024, HLPFI reported that Manitowoc would be upgrading its Grove GMK6400-1 all-terrain crane, increasing its maximum capacity rating to 450 tonnes.
