Manitowoc will upgrade its Grove GMK6400-1 all-terrain crane, increasing its maximum capacity rating to 450 tonnes.
The newly designated GMK6450-1 boasts a 50-tonne improvement in lift capacity over the GMK6400-1it supersedes. The crane remains the strongest all-terrain crane available on six-axles and its renaming better reflects its true capabilities, according to Manitowoc.
“Over the past two years, we have seen a growing demand for a name change from our global customer base. We reviewed the crane’s performance, which resulted in a new model, the GMK6450-1,” said Andreas Cremer, vice president product and project management for mobile cranes at Manitowoc.
The MAXbase variable outrigger positioning system on the GMK6400-1 – able to be used in tandem with the capacity-increasing MegaWingLift – enables the use of asymmetrical outrigger set-ups and leads to enhanced load charts. The self-rigging attachment can be deployed in less than 20 minutes and without an assisting crane.
Maxbase increases lifting capacity by up to 70 percent on the main boom and 400 percent when using the luffing jib.
Replacing seven or eight-axle all-terrain cranes for specific projects, the Grove GMK6450-1 offers segment-leading lifting capabilities. It can lift 8.9 tonnes between 38 m and 50 m radii when working with its full boom and jib system length of 136 m. When working with 120 m of boom and jib, the crane can handle 12.8 tonnes at distances between 36 m and 52 m.
Able to lift in wind speeds of up to 9 m/s with a luffing jib of 79 m, the GMK6450-1 is apt for wind power projects that require flexible set-up distances to the turbine and the ability to lift heavy loads at steep vertical angles.
