Massachusetts, USA-based Cappello Heavy Transport has taken delivery of one of the first four-axle MegaMax double-drop trailers with a steerable pin-on flip axle from trailer manufacturer Faymonville.
The steerable flip axle, which was launched earlier this year as HLPFI reported here, helps to increase the legal payload of the trailer and ensure more versatility when travelling from state to state.
Cappello Heavy Transport recently utilised the trailer to transport a truck crane.
According to Faymonville, Cappello Heavy Transport was able to drive the machine onto the trailer without the use of extra accessories or bolsters thanks to its stretch deck, which increases the length of the deck from 25 ft (7.6 m) to 42 ft (12.8 m).
The trailer has two beams on the outside of the deck; when it is extended the operator is still able to drive a piece of machinery onto the deck without the need to fill any gaps, says Faymonville.
“This is different from the vast majority of double-drop stretches that are manufactured and distributed in the USA, as they usually have one or two stretch beams in the centre of the deck,” says the company.
