Japanese heavy transport specialist Denzai has ordered 108 axle lines of Cometto’s new MSPE 60t (6/4/4) SPMT. The compact, high-capacity system was developed for operations in Japan’s constrained port environments.
Denzai said that it has ordered 18 units of the MSPE 60t (6/4/4) six-axle modular trailers, for a total of 108 axle lines, along with four MSPE 390kW power pack units.
A signing ceremony was held with Cometto on April 8, 2025 at the bauma 2025 international construction machinery trade fair in Munich, Germany. Attendees included Denzai founder Yukihiro Uemura, president and ceo Kohki Uemura. Representatives from the Faymonville Group, the parent company of Cometto, including Alain Faymonville, managing director and Alexander Fickers, ceo, were also in attendance.
The SPMT is compact and highly manoeuvrable, designed for efficient operation within the limited spaces of Japanese ports where offshore wind components will be delivered in the future. With a load-bearing capacity of 60 tonnes per axle, the full configuration will enable the transportation of ultra-heavy cargo exceeding 5,000 tonnes. It is also engineered to adapt flexibly to the challenging ground conditions often found at Japanese ports and related sites.
Moreover, the tubeless tyres used in the MSPE 60t – manufactured by Trelleborg, a subsidiary of Yokohama Rubber – are designed for enhanced safety with reduced risk of bursting. They also exert minimal pressure on ground surfaces, helping to preserve port infrastructure.
Of the 108 axles being introduced, 36 axles and one power pack will be configured to operate as a counterweight solution for Denzai’s 2,500-tonne capacity Liebherr LR12500 crawler crane. This setup will enable mobile and efficient operations at the worksite. Cometto and Denzai conducted extensive testing with Liebherr prior to this deployment.
Uemura said the MSPE 60t was developed over a year of close collaboration between engineers from the Denzai and Cometto: “This new model increases the per-axle load capacity from the conventional 48 tonnes to 60 tonnes, and has been evolved and refined to perform effectively even in Japanese ports where ground bearing capacity is limited. We are truly honoured to have played a role in the development of this new MSPE 60t and to be the first in the world to introduce it.”
Jeremy Keller, head of sales export at Faymonville, added that the new vehicles can be used for a wide range of applications. “Thanks to their modular design and outstanding manoeuvrability, they are also used for offshore wind turbines, as in this case for Denzai.”
