Conbit, part of the ALE, has designed a re-usable sea-fastening solution for monopile transportation and installation.
The cradle system, named Vickas, enables sea fastening of monopiles with a large variety of diameters without changing the configuration.
Conbit said: "Its flexibility, cost effectiveness and operational speed make Vickas a valuable contribution to any monopile transport and installation project."
Vickas is designed to carry monopiles weighing up to 1,350 tonnes and can be used on a variety of types of vessels and barges. According to Conbit, it also facilitates the stacking of monopiles.
Joop de Fouw, technical director for Conbit, said: "This system will bring cost benefits to the transport and installation contractor and ultimately to the offshore wind farm developer."
The system will also avoid the amount of sea fastening scrap that remains after each monopile installation project, says Conbit.
