Cometto’s new six-axle ModulMAX SP-E boasts electronic steering and a hybrid power pack unit that is equipped with a 186-kW diesel engine and a 100-kW electric motor with a compatible battery pack. The hybrid power pack unit is charged via the diesel engine.

The unit was first deployed by a Danish wind energy customer. The country has legislated that workers inside factories must vacate the area when diesel-power vehicles are used indoors, and must wait until the room has been properly ventialed until they can return.

This legislation has the potential to pose companies issues in terms of cycle times and keeping production cost-effective, such as the reliance of SPMTs in moving wind turbine components. This hybrid solution helps to avoid such disruption.

Another benefit, said Cometto, is that noise levels at the production fell to below 80 dB, which means that its employees can work in the hall for up to eight hours without needing hearing protection in the immediate vicinity of the work.

In October 2024, HLPFI reported that Germany-based heavy transport specialist Baumann had added 24 axle lines of SPMTs from Cometto.
