The truck is now out on its first project for Collett.

Collett’s TGX SLM 41.640 8x4, dubbed the ‘Stealth Bomber’ is just one of four limited edition models in the UK.

With a bold black finish, the truck has a 250-tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) rating and is equipped with a WSK torque converter, as well as a built-in intarder to reduce brake wear. The heavy-duty prime mover is powered by a D38 engine which delivers 640 hp, which offers 3,000 nm of torque which rises to 6,300 nm when the torque converter is engaged for total control.

Separately, having reported in March 2025 that Collett delivered a stator to the Gretna grid stability facility in Scotland, the company has also been on hand to transport a 198-tonne transformer to the site. Collett used its 12-axle flattop trailer and lowered the piece – which measured 10.2 m x 3.7 m x 4.8 m – onto stools and stored it at Heysham port.

Collett used a combination of trailers to move the transformer, including a girder bridge trailer (pictured here).

A 24-axle, 350-tonne capacity Scheuerle girder bridge trailer was then built around the transformer. With a combined length of 77 m – including the trailer – the trailer was demobilised for the final four miles (6.4 km) of the journey, due to road conditions. The transformer was then loaded onto a 16-axle SPMT and driven to site at a 1 mph pace (1.6 kmh).

Once at the site in Gretna, Collett’s team jacked the transformer from the SPMT to place a skid track underneath it, before being skidded along the track until it was jacked up so that the skid track could be removed. It was then jacked down onto the final plinth using positioning plates.

“The Gretna project required meticulous planning and coordination. We’re proud of our dedicated team for working extremely hard and providing a quality service to our customer,” said Eric Crosby, projects director at Collett.
