Sarens’ SGC-250 crane, named Big Carl, has lifted the 750-tonne polar crane into place at Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant project in the UK.

Big Carl lifts Hinkley polar crane into place

The polar heavy-duty crane will rotate 360 degrees at the top of the building and will be used to install heavy equipment during construction, such as the reactor. It will also be used when the power station is operational for refuelling and maintenance.

With the lift completed, the first reactor building at the nuclear plant is ready for the dome to be installed.
