Faced with ageing infrastructure and stringent transport permit regulations, Baumann, in collaboration with Greiner Heavy Engineering, has introduced a newly designed girder bridge that combines lightweight engineering with advanced functionality.

Managing director Sabine Baumann said: “Our long-standing partnership with Greiner has been instrumental in creating the new 450-tonne girder bridge. The increasing weight of transformers amid declining infrastructure necessitated this innovation. The new bridge has already surpassed our expectations in demand and will see extensive use across Europe in the coming year.”

The new girder bridge features several enhancements over previous models. One change is the improved side sliding extension, now available with multiple folding options for greater flexibility.

Components like the empty travel device and the modular, variable-length load distributor can be removed to reduce weight. Structural adaptations to the scissor lifting element also contribute to overall weight reduction. The bridge can be raised to 2.5 m below the girder’s bottom edge, ensuring it meets diverse transport requirements.

Baumann’s upper-class girder bridge fleet already includes 150-tonne and 350-tonne variants from Greiner. Combined with Baumann’s modern Goldhofer THP/FT and THP/SL-L platform trailers, the new girder bridge enhances its transport solutions.

The new bridge underwent a successful overload test at Baumann’s facility at the end of August 2024.
