Baltic Towers is building one of the largest production sites for offshore wind towers in Europe on the island of Ostrów, Gdańsk, Poland. Cometto has been contracted to supply SPMTs that will be stationed at the site.
In June 2024, Baltic Towers started building the facility, and towers should start to roll off the production line in the second quarter of 2025. It will be able to produce tower segments with an 11 m diameter, a length of 50 m, and a weight of up to 500 tonnes. Baltic Towers is expecting to construct around 150 towers every year.
Cometto was awarded the contract to supply 48 SPMT axle lines from its 48T series, along with four power pack units. Once production is under way, these SPMTs will be used to transport the delivered steel plates, tower sections and entire towers and will ensure that they are stored and loaded onto ships.
“In addition to the qualitative strengths of the Cometto SPMT, another decisive factor in the customer’s decision was the fact that any service work required will be carried out by employees from our plant in Goleniow,” said Joachim Kolb, sales manager at Cometto, describing the favourable conditions. “This ensures rapid availability and thus guarantees that transport availability is maintained at all times.”
Highlighting the value of new vehicles, Baltic Towers’ head of logistics Tomasz Bogdan, said: “The SPMTs to be delivered will be the backbone of our production, and that is why, after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the offers, we chose Cometto as our partner in this lighthouse project.”
Earlier this month, HLPFI reported on Cometto’s launching of its Eco500 self-propelled module.
